Welcome to the launch issue of The Polo Gazette, an immersive chronicle – and newsletter – designed to take you into the extraordinary world of ideas and interests that inspire Polo’s vision of timeless style.
This edition focuses on the fall collection of Polo Originals – which features our iconic silver-and-blue label – and the world that inspired it: the early days of Grand Prix racing. From this comes a vision in which the workwear of the track and the tweeds and ties of country life create a new mix that is both tough and refined. We hope you enjoy the issue.

Tough & Refined
A look at how the art – and eternal now – of putting two surprisingly unexpected things together roars to life in this season of Polo Originals By Jay Fielden
The man in the photograph was dressed in a way that didn’t have any real precedent, not back then. It’s not that the different pieces he had on weren’t familiar; they were. The leather bomber, the denim jacket, the white workshirt worn with a tie – a silk knit yanked out of its predictable upper-crust context and, as a result, made all the more desirable. Each element was a perfected example of its kind, rather than a newfangled take reworked for the sake of affecting some trend of the vanishing moment. Inventing just to invent clearly wasn’t the intention. These impulses are the drivers of modern fashion. It’s why it comes and why it goes and why it is so often forgotten. The test of taste the man was interested in was greater, even harder – a test against time itself. The man, of course, was Ralph Lauren.

The One to Get

THE ASYMMETRICAL OILCLOTH JACKET
In Detail
Designed with both style and function in mind, it’s a modern reinterpretation of a classic leather bike jacket.
Heritage
It takes the silhouette of a traditional leather bike jacket and reimagines it in a waxed oilcloth fabric manufactured by British Millerain®, pioneers of rainproof finishes for six generations
Style Notes
The cut is what needs to be considered here, as it ends at the waist, and will nicely frame the detail and length of a great pair of trousers – tweed, twill or corduroy.
